Protecting Britain’s Heritage

The Stonehenge Visitors Centre in Wiltshire, England, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK. With over one million visitors per year, security is a top priority. The ultra-modern Visitor Centre opened in 2013 and is designed to educate, sell, and provide a fun day out for families, friends, and schools while still representing the ingenuity of the monument itself. However, shortly after opening, it became apparent that the ticket office required a security upgrade in order to cope with the influx of visitors.

Challenge

English Heritage, custodians of the prehistoric Stonehenge monument, wanted to provide greater protection for their staff and customers without hindering customer interaction. This required a full counter and screen replacement and the strengthening of all available access points. It was important to create a solution that protected the entire ticket office module while preserving the award-winning architecture and aesthetic of the building.

Solution

English Heritage approached Safetell, a security solutions provider, to secure their external Ticket Office. Safetell installed an array of security solutions, including Security Glazing with built-in Speech Transfer, Cash Scoops, and a Staffline Door. The security and cash management solutions were made easier through Safetell’s in-house Project Management team, providing a single point of communication and supply. The Security Glazing was designed to provide stronger protection, while Speech Transfer was built in to allow for seamless communication and transference of tickets and cash.

Outcome

Safetell successfully transformed the standard ticket office into a first-rate security enclosure while preserving the bespoke design vernacular of the acclaimed tourist destination. The Cash Scoops and Staffline Door improved in-office security and customer service efficiency, and the built-in Speech Transfer allowed for seamless communication between staff and customers.
